If you know Mary McFadden, you know her designs, even without the original label. I have seen this dress before in my past with the label intact.
As was the custom back in the day, the label was removed and the shop label was stitched in. Should have been a crime.

Fabric on the bodice is a lush black velvet. Presents as an inky black.
Cut a bit fuller through the bodice with a pseudo-dolman sleeve.
Rounded shoulders with shoulder pads.
Long sleeves end in a zipper wrist.
Back zipper.
Skirt is that iconic Mary McFadden straight cut, unlined and pleated.
Lots of movement.
Classic and simple design is accented at the dropped waist with a bronzy gold cord band.

Excellent condition.
